UNDERSTANDING THE AGING PROCESS
TWENTIES – THIRTIES
During the late twenties to thirties, skin aging begins, especially if there has been sun exposure. Fine lines may appear as collagen and elastin start to break down, and the delicate skin under the eyes may thin. Skin tends to become drier more quickly, and broken veins and age spots may start to become visible. Under-eye puffiness may also become more noticeable. However, there are ways to slow down the aging process during this stage.
FORTIES
In the forties, deeper lines may form around the mouth and eyes, and furrows may appear on the forehead. Circles under the eyes may develop into pouches, and the skin generally becomes drier. Skin may also become more sensitive during the run-up to menopause. The breakdown of elastin and collagen leads to a loss of skin resilience.
FIFTIES
In the fifties, fine wrinkles start to appear, and the lines that develop may deepen into folds. This is due to a decrease in estrogen production post-menopause, which causes the skin to become thinner and more fragile. The skin's ability to retain moisture decreases, and the production of collagen and elastin slows down significantly. Skin tone may also become more uneven with an increase in "sun spots."
SIXTIES
In the sixties, skin faces challenges such as dryness and a decrease in natural oil production. Dullness becomes more prominent as cell turnover continues to slow down. Dark spots may also stand out due to the lack of oil, loss of collagen and elastin, and dryness. However, it is important to note that every skin condition is either preventable or reversible.
